Join in and celebrate NAIDOC Week 2021.
NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia each July to celebrate the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. The week is a great opportunity to participate in a range of activities and to support your local First Nations’ community.
The NAIDOC 2021 theme – Heal Country! – calls for all of us to continue to seek greater protections for our lands, our waters, our sacred sites and our cultural heritage from exploitation, desecration, and destruction.
We encourage people to attend events in their local area, while taking care to abide to current COVID directions.
Below is a list of events in the greater Adelaide area to help you plan your NAIDOC week celebrations.
Central Adelaide
First Nations Women’s Embodied Performance Practices
5th July – 6:30pm
Odeon Theatre, 57a Queen St, Norwood SA 5067
Presented by ADT’s International Centre for Choreography with Adrianne Semmens, ADT’s 2021 Associate Artist, as part of NAIDOC Week. A panel of First Nations practitioners gather to speak on their practices and recent work. The panel be they from dance, theatre, community arts or activism artists are invited to engage in a conversation about their processes, practices, collaboration, core values and critical issues.

NAIDOC March and Family Fun Day **Postponed**

Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square)
Join us at Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square) as we march to Parliament House. The NAIDOC March will leave Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square). Celebrations will follow at the family fun day at Tarntanyangga (Victoria Square) with over 40 stall holders from Government and Non-Government organisations, Men’s Zone, Women’s Zone, Elders Zone, Be Active Zone, Small Business Zone and Children’s Zone, Food and free concert.
Museum of South Australia Guided Tour from Newmarch Gallery

Departing from Newmarch Gallery, enjoy a short journey to the Museum of South Australia for lunch at the Museum Cafe (included in your ticket price) .

Sharing Culture through Art

Traditional Basket Weaving and Placemat Workshop

Artists from Marra Dreaming will run a dot painting/place-mat painting and a basket weaving workshop at the library to celebrate NAIDOC Week. Participants will be able to take their placemats home after the session and baskets will be displayed around the library.

NAIDOC 2021 invites the nation to embrace First Nations’ cultural knowledge and understanding of Country as part of Australia’s national heritage and equally respect the culture and values of Aboriginal peoples and Torres Strait Islanders as they do the cultures and values of all Australians.
Children’s Art Workshop

Join a special NAIDOC Week art workshop with local Aboriginal artist and Kokatha woman, Micky Barlow. Create your own lino prints and dot paintings to take home and listen to Micky as she teaches us more about some beautiful Aboriginal artefacts.
$15 per child. Suitable for children aged 8 to 15.
Leaf Painting – a traditional dot painting workshop

Join Daphne Rickett, Kaurna, Ngarrindjeri and Latji Latji Elder at this workshop that provides a fun and interactive introduction to local Indigenous art techniques. Paint gum leaves using Aboriginal symbols and dot painting and learn the stories these symbols depict.

Join Kaurna Ngarrindjeri, Latji Latji Elder Aunty Daphne in a special workshop of aboriginal painting. Listen to interesting background stories and learn some tips and tricks on making an amazing artwork. Materials supplied. Suits children ages 7 years +.

Basket Weaving and Dot Painting

Learn the art of basket weaving and make a placemat using dot painting techniques with Aboriginal artists from Marra Dreaming. Bookings are essential.
Stories with Damien Coulthard

Damien Coulthard is an Adnyamathanha and Dieri man, co-author of the book Warndu Mai, an artist and teacher who loves to share his knowledge with all. Come join Damien for a morning of stories, activity, culture and fun. Bookings are essential.
