StandBy Support After Suicide has announced a new partnership with AnglicareSA to provide statewide post suicide support across South Australia for the first time.

The partnership, beginning July 1 2021, will ensure all South Australians, throughout metropolitan, rural, and remote areas of the state can access 24/7 support for those bereaved or impacted by suicide.

As part of StandBy’s national expansion, AnglicareSA will run StandBy throughout the state, establishing a new service in Adelaide to replace the service currently delivered in Country SA.

StandBy General Manager Karen Phillips says StandBy is well known in the Country SA region and they’re excited to expand services in Adelaide.

“StandBy has been supporting families, loved ones, witnesses, first responders and communities impacted by suicide for almost two decades. We partner with organisations, local communities and well-respected service providers such as AnglicareSA right across Australia,” she said.

“The grief that follows suicide is complex, and from one suicide up to 135 people may be impacted. We’re proud to be able to offer support to all South Australians, thanks to this newly formed agreement.

“Those that are bereaved or impacted by suicide are at a greater risk of suicide themselves, and our focus is to provide a range of support to anyone that may be impacted, including emotional and practical support to young people, children, schools and workplaces.

“We’ve had a long-term relationship with AnglicareSA working on joint projects since StandBy commenced in Country SA in 2013, and we’re extremely thankful to the support provided by the previous StandBy partners,” she said.

AnglicareSA CEO Grant Reubenicht said they are proud to partner with StandBy to deliver support to those bereaved or impacted by suicide across South Australia.

“The program aligns well with AnglicareSA’s existing suicide prevention and postvention services,” he said.

“We have a proud history of supporting South Australians affected by suicide and this program allows us to extend that support across the whole of South Australia.

“Support for people impacted by suicide is vital, as is building community awareness and capacity. With an increasing demand for suicide support across the state, it is more important than ever that we can provide the right support services for people in times of need.”

The delivery of StandBy throughout South Australia is part of the Commonwealth Government’s commitment to make support services available for every Australian who is bereaved or impacted by suicide.
