What the service offers

Our range of early intervention family support services can help strengthen family life and improve the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.

Our Child Youth & Family Practitioners provide home visiting services, which are child-centred and family inclusive. We work with you in your own home, or wherever you feel most comfortable. Visits are weekly for up to two hours, stepping down over time.

Why use this service?

AnglicareSA’s specialised staff work alongside families to:

  • provide skills to support and assist with parenting
  • promote safe and appropriate development from infancy through to adolescence
  • assist with communication and conflict resolution to improve relationships
  • provide practical support and education
  • advocate on issues impacting parents
  • connect families with resources and services.

Mindful Awareness Parenting 8-week group program

AnglicareSA’s Mindful Awareness Parenting (MAP) program is an eight-week course designed to provide parents and caregivers with the skills and knowledge to stay calm during the challenging moments of raising children. Our workshops are specifically designed to be, respectful, fun and supportive, helping you to build a positive connection with your child or children.

Through mindfulness practice, you’ll learn to focus on yourself and others with kindness and acceptance. This helps to enable you to notice your child’s needs, repair relationships when things don’t go smoothly, and enjoy being a ‘good enough’ parent or caregiver. University research has also shown that mindfulness practice helps with chronic pain, stress, depression, anxiety, improves immune system function, and increases general wellbeing.

MAP groups are held in community locations in southern and northern Adelaide.

Thriving Families

The Thriving Families program provides support that is child centred and family inclusive. It is a home visiting service for up to six months with the aim of preventing entry or escalation in statutory child protection services, or for those stepping down from more intensive services. Home visiting can be weekly for up to two hours and will include goal setting and case management support.

We have a strengths-based, culturally inclusive and trauma responsive approach that enhances the capacity of families, parents and children to manage their life’s challenges.

The Thriving Families program will address the needs of the children, young people, and families to:

  • enable children to remain safely with their families.
  • improve family safety and wellbeing.
  • build and sustain family functioning.
  • strengthen the capacity of families to influence decisions and reach potential.
  • increase service navigation, access, and advocacy support, and
  • strengthen connection to support in their community and culture.

The Thriving Families Program, funded through the Department of Human Services Strong Families, Strong Communities initiative, supports families whose children range in age from pre-birth to 17 years of age in Adelaide’s outer northern suburbs and southern regions.
