Celebrating our aged care champions
6 August 2025
This Aged Care Employee Day, AnglicareSA celebrates and recognises our dedicated workforce across our Aged Care Services who work tirelessly to provide essential care, comfort, and companionship to our loved ones.
From leaders to those working on the frontlines or behind the scenes, such as hospitality teams, gardeners, cleaners, nurses, and administration employees, we say, ‘Thanks for Caring’ and changing lives every day.
Serving with heart
For many residents in aged care, the warmth of a meal and a familiar face can make all the difference.
That is where hospitality workers like Mandeep Kaur come in, who works at our Trott Park Residential Aged Care home.
With a background in commercial cookery and working in restaurants, Mandeep is no stranger to the kitchen, but sought a career in aged care because she wanted to help older people.
“I love the thought of being able to make a bond with the older people we care for and build trust with them,” Mandeep said.
She said she loved the days when she worked in the servery and could see the residents enjoying the meals she helped prepare.
“When they see their meal and are happy, it’s a very good feeling to satisfy someone and feed them,” she said.
She said Aged Care Employee Day was a day to show gratitude towards employees in the aged care sector.
“It is a day to say thank you for countless hours of the care, patience, empathy, and love that aged care employees bring to their work.”
One big family
Mehul Shah said Brompton Residential Aged Care home where he works was like one big family.
“It’s a very small site, and all of the employees here work as a team,” Mehul said.
“Personal carers, nursing team, even management all help each other. And definitely all of the residents are a part of our Brompton family.”
As a personal care worker at AnglicareSA, Mehul’s role involves helping residents with daily tasks such as showering, dressing, eating, and mobility.
He said that in his role, he formed close bonds with residents and learned from them.
“I learn things from the residents – different thinking and knowledge,” Mehul said.
Mehul said he found his role fulfilling and rewarding, despite the occasional challenges.
“I love my role as a care worker and find it rewarding to provide the best care to the residents,” he said.
“The management team here listens to employees, communicates well, and provides good training and teaching.”
He said he had an opportunity for growth within AnglicareSA, which he said offered some of the best care in the aged care sector.
“I believe AnglicareSA has a good standard of care in the sector, and I strongly support their mission.”
From retail to aged care
If there is anything that working in retail and aged care has in common, it is having the gift of the gab.
After years in retail, Mandy made the leap into aged care, and quickly discovered her greatest strength was not just her work ethic but her ability to connect.
“One thing I learnt from my retail days is learning how to talk to anybody and starting a conversation,” Mandy said.
Mandy, who works in Community Aged Care as a care worker, assists older people in their homes or on outings with tasks such as shopping, cleaning, showering, and attending social groups.
She said learning from the people she supported was one of her favourite things about the job.
“I tell my customers all the time that they teach me things I did not know,” Mandy said.
“Just this week, one of them, who is an Aboriginal Elder, was explaining to me how boomerangs are shaped differently depending on what they are used for. I never knew that.”
Mandy said Aged Care Employee Day was a day to celebrate those who supported our older loved ones.
“It is just amazing work – what aged care employees do and how caring they are,” she said.
“With the amount of work people do in aged care, it is nice to be recognised for that.”
