For green thumb Margaret, not being able to maintain her garden has been devastating.

The 85-year-old is battling Leaukamia and can’t get out into her western suburbs garden as much as she’d like.

But Margaret’s garden is now back in shape thanks to employees from AnglicareSA and Air Liquide who recently volunteered to get their gardening gloves dirty on her behalf.

“It means everything to me,” says Margaret.  “When they came and told me that I was going to get my garden done – you have no idea – it gave me such a lift,” she says.

“I’ve been so looking forward to it and all I can say is ‘thank you’ to AnglicareSA and all those people.”

As part of a corporate volunteering day, the gardens of Margaret and two other Community Aged Care customers were tended to by a group of AnglicareSA and Air Liquide employees

On top of Margaret’s wish list was some new mulch to help keep the weeds at bay while she undergoes chemotherapy.

“I’m hoping that they can sort out the weeds for me and put down some mulch just to make it easier for me to maintain,” she said.

“I can do it myself but then I need to come and sit down for half an hour, so this is the most perfect present I’ve ever had.”

Corporate volunteering is just one of the many ways AnglicareSA partners with organisations and businesses to have a positive impact on the lives of South Australians.

Air Liquide marketing and events coordinator Jess flew to Adelaide from the Gold Coast just to volunteer for the day.

“It’s great for us to all come together as a team to help someone out,” says Jess.

“It’s so wholesome and rewarding to see it from start to finish and see residents’ reactions as well. It feels like doing something nice for your grandparents.”

AnglicareSA volunteer coordinator Olga Russo says corporate volunteering is an amazing opportunity for businesses to come together to help others.

“It’s great for teams to work together and spend some time doing good for customers like Margaret,” she says.

“Something as simple as tending to the garden and trimming back the weeds has such a positive impact.”
