The group helping men stay social
15 July 2026
Every Thursday, Pete hangs out with his new friends at Men’s Group, part of AnglicareSA’s social activities offerings.
Whether it is a quiet day of arts and crafts, playing cards, bowling, or an outing around town, Pete does not mind – he is just happy to be part of the group.
With a keen ear for music, Pete’s first involvement with the social activities program was joining the choir group a few years ago.
“I used to sing in the pubs in England,” Pete said.
“I joined the choir group and there were about 20 of us, which was fun.”
After regularly attending the choir group, Pete looked for other groups he could join within AnglicareSA’s offerings and found Men’s Group.
He has been a regular with the group for a few years now and said that the regular outings and forming bonds with the other men had helped him combat loneliness.
“It’s having somewhere to go on a Thursday,” he said.
“I live on my own, so it’s nice to get around and meet different people.
“I love going on outings with the group.”
AnglicareSA Social Activities Lead, Tash Burczyk, said that social activities provided an opportunity to build stronger social connections.
“Staying social is just as important as keeping physically active,” Tash said.
“Social activities are a fun day out, but they are also about creating friendships, building confidence, and combating loneliness.”
