COVID-19 updates for the AnglicareSA community | Read more

The challenges of arriving in a new country to start a new life have only increased with the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

While people flock to the shops, be it panic-buying or stocking up, many newly-arrived families to South Australia have been placed in mandatory self-isolation in hotels.

AnglicareSA’s Settlement Services in collaboration with AnglicareSA Westworks, support refugees and migrants to settle into their new life. This includes providing each family with food and sanitary supplies.

With our regular suppliers and supermarkets implementing customer quantity restrictions, this has become extremely challenging.

Nevertheless, our Westworks staff took it on themselves to venture out to multiple stores, individually seeking as much of the required supplies as possible, that was permitted. Along the way, experiencing community backlash for the trolley loads of goods they purchased.

The team have been unyielding in their mission, displaying perseverance to source essential items, so that newly-arrived South Australians can put food on the table for their families during these difficult and uncertain times.
