AnglicareSA has entered a partnership with Foodbank SA to establish a Northern Community Food Hub to provide emergency food assistance to families and individuals in the Elizabeth area.

This exciting new partnership will see our existing food store facility at The Elizabeth Mission upgraded and expanded so we can assist more people who are in need of emergency food and household items.

CEO of AnglicareSA Peter Sandeman says “This could not be more timely – with the recent Holden job losses we’ve already seen an increase in demand for our emergency assistance at The Mission in Elizabeth, so it’s vital that we can continue to meet demand and offer support to those in need at critical times in their lives.”

He continues “Demand is unlikely to lessen as the entire automotive industry shuts down – we need to be prepared.”

Foodbank SA is the largest hunger relief agency in South Australia and their connections and purchasing power mean they can source a wide variety of foods. As a result, we will be able to offer a broader selection of food, including fresh fruit and vegetables on a daily basis.

AnglicareSA and Foodbank SA will be employing a coordinator to manage the upgraded facility and our emergency relief service. The Emergency Relief Service and the running of the store will continue to rely on volunteers to help run the service for the community.

The establishment of the Food Hub will see an extension of the existing food service which will need more space. We will begin upgrading the facility in the next four weeks and work is expected to be complete in coming months. Our existing services will continue to operate during this time.
