This winter, there will be more South Australians in crisis than ever before

Everyday families South Australian are facing heartbreaking day-to-day decisions between buying food, paying bills, or buying medicine.
Winter is already so hard for many South Australian families, and we expect this winter to be our toughest yet as budgets are stretched beyond means.
With your help, we hope to raise $160,000 to help individuals, families, and children when they have no one else to turn to this cold and unforgiving Winter season.
Will you help us ensure members of our community experiencing vulnerability can access food and necessities this Winter?
By donating to our Winter Appeal, you are helping to change the lives of fellow South Australians.

*Kevin has just enough money each week to put a roof over his young family’s heads and pay household bills. But when their youngest child was born prematurely, with an undiagnosed heart condition, the young family faced both, health concerns for mum and baby, and the uncertainty of how they were going cover the medical bills.
What should have been a time of celebration was stressful and traumatic. “I honestly didn’t know how we were going to manage,” said Kevin.
“My partner, Leanne and our children are totally dependent on me – we have no-one else that can help us,” says Kevin.
“Already living day to day, counting every dollar to put food on the table. I could not afford petrol to drive myself and my daughter to hospital to visit her mum and new baby brother. I was having to make choices about whether to turn on the heater, buy food or medication that our baby needed. The cost of living has gone crazy… I did not know how to make ends meet.”
“We had nowhere else to turn. That is when we went to AnglicareSA. The case workers were so helpful and sympathetic to our situation.”
“We received a fuel voucher so we could travel to the Hospital, groceries, newborn nappies, and toiletries for Leanne. I was so grateful that AnglicareSA were there for me. I really did not know where else to go,” said Kevin.
*Kevin and Leanne are just an example of the thousands of South Australians that AnglicareSA’s Emergency Services team helps each day.
Sadly, Kevin and Leanne are not alone in facing serious financial stress. This Winter we expect more crisis calls to AnglicareSA’s Emergency Assistance services.
In 2021/22 our Emergency Assistance services helped more than 13,000 South Australians, with almost half being families with children. We are expecting an increase of 40% in calls for our service this year.
