Communities provide a sense of belonging, support, and shared experiences that enrich our lives in countless ways.
It is the power of community that brings people together based upon their location, special interests, and activities – some community service groups include Rotary, Apex, Lions, Rotaract and many others.
There is an ever-increasing sense of community in our society today; in wanting to be a part of something bigger than ourselves.
The power of community extends to both individuals and groups, actively meeting regularly and undertaking social welfare activities including:
- supporting and learning about different vocations
- volunteering or donating to social welfare organisations
- supporting overseas communities
- focussing on youth services and the disadvantaged in their local community.
These clubs make our society a better place, their collective activities are shining examples of community, and produce incredible leaders in our own backyard.
How community service clubs can assist AnglicareSA
AnglicareSA services broadly cover the areas of older people, children and families, foster care, young people, disability and wellbeing, support, and housing.
Frontline programs supporting those in most in need include:
- Emergency Assistance for more than 13,000 people every year including food, groceries, warm clothes, and medications
- Post Care Pathways supporting young people leaving state care aged 18 to 25 years with accommodation in the absence of parental and family support
- Star Bear program supporting children and young people aged 4 to 17 years whose lives have been shattered by the loss of a significant person in their lives. Tailored loss and grief camps for these young people are the only program of its kind in South Australia
- Thread Together provides new, high-quality clothing for people in the community. The by-appointment service is free of charge and provides clothing and individual dignity to more than 5,000 adults and children every year
- Turning Point providing accommodation for families in crisis for up to three months, with wrap-around support services to help families get their lives back on track.
AnglicareSA requires financial support from the community in South Australia to cover the ever-increasing costs of delivering these services.
AnglicareSA’s community engagement
For some time, AnglicareSA has prioritised engaging with the community both spreading the word of the range of services it provides to the ageing, vulnerable, or marginalised and offering the opportunity to directly assist with volunteering or of most help, much needed funds to directly amplify the service delivery to those in the South Australian community.
Many service clubs have their own social enterprise by way of a book or op shop, an annual quiz night, or a Bunnings sausage sizzle and disperse funds as and when they are moved to do so.
Alternatively, clubs can hold a specific event such as a movie night, where all proceeds go toward a chosen AnglicareSA service.
