AnglicareSA’s Turning Point program provides families in crisis with a fully furnished home to help them get back on track. Families can stay in a Turning Point property for up to three months, while AnglicareSA support workers support them to find employment or training, access financial support, and keep the children engaged with school.
So far, the majority of families who have come through the Turning Point program have since secured permanent housing, and in some cases, even gone on to purchase their own home.
Rather than being forced into a motel room, Turning Point homes allow families to continue their daily life with greater self-sufficiency, security and normality, making it a unique support service in South Australia.

How Turning Point can change lives: David’s story
David and his wife Sara* were your average double income family with two children, Jordan and Chloe. Life was travelling wonderfully, until one day they received the devastating news that Sara had cancer.
Sara was worried for her family, as any wife and mother would, and her treatment starting taking a physical toll. Before long she was unable to keep working. She simply couldn’t keep up anymore.
Reduced to one income, times got tougher for the family. The mortgage payments, utility bills, general cost of living, as well as the extra burden of medical bills eroded their savings. It was starting to get harder to make ends meet.
As Sara’s condition worsened David had to make the difficult decision to give up his work and stay home to care for Sara and the kids. David knew the financial implications of this decision but his wife and kids needed him at home.
With no income they had no choice but to register for government support to simply ‘get by’. Sadly, Sara passed away, leaving David and the kids completely heartbroken.
David found it really difficult to find work, the bills had piled up, and he was left to care for the kids on his own. David sold their family home in an attempt to clear the debts, but eventually the money ran too slim and they ended up sleeping in their family car.
