AnglicareSA has welcomed the Federal Treasurer’s youth jobs announcement which will help young people prepare for entry into the job market and increase their prospects of remaining employed.
“This initiative has the potential to provide jobless young people with meaningful internships, which many don’t have access to in the current economic climate,” AnglicareSA CEO, The Rev’d Peter Sandeman said.
“We need our youth to be engaged in the workforce and see employment opportunities in this state, and the Youth Jobs PaTH package addresses two key components to make this happen – employability skills training and internships.
“It will provide South Australia’s youth with a great opportunity to understand the expectations and challenges of the work environment and learn new skills so they can stay in the workforce.”
Rev’d Sandeman said he hopes the Federal Government scheme will make some genuine inroads into overcoming Adelaide’s unemployment crisis.
“For some time I’ve been concerned for the next generation of workers who can’t see a future for themselves in employment, but today’s announcement by the Federal Government is a positive step forward,” he said.
“It is my hope that this initiative will be targeted towards our young people who are most in need, including those in Adelaide’s north and from third and fourth generation unemployment families.
“It’s now up to young people to make the most of this opportunity and for local businesses to support it.”
